Who We Help > Case Studies > Family Services of Westchester
For more than half a century, Family Services of Westchester in Port Chester, New York has provided a full range of social and mental health services to strengthen and support families, children and individuals at every life stage. FSW helps more than 16,000 people each year through its programs and facilities, including seven Family Centers, two residential homes, an intergenerational adult program, assisted living for seniors, two senior employment agencies and numerous community outreach programs focused on youth both in school and the community. For many years, Family Services of Westchester rented a two-family building to run a group home for boys. That program was in jeopardy with the pending sale of the building and there was concern that a move could be disruptive to the children who call the place home. FSW approached the Leviticus Fund in hopes of securing financing to purchase the building. The $412,000 loan from Leviticus enabled Family Services of Westchester to acquire the building and maintain the stability of a home for the boys in their care. The building’s purchase provided an additional two-fold advantage for the agency; the economics of ownership over ongoing rental fees and the avoidance of a struggle to locate another site for its group home and potential community opposition to its location.
