News & Events > The Grace of Stewardship
Elmsford, NY, December 20, 2007 - The Bible quote referenced in Leviticus’ full name – Leviticus 25:23 – serves as a reminder that land is not a commodity to be controlled, but a resource – a gift – given by God to be shared for the common good of all creation. It is truly a challenging mandate, but one that continues to inspire Leviticus’ staff and Board to continue its work of channeling investments into economically poor communities to promote quality and accessible housing and community-based support services. (To meet our Board and some of our Member investors at this year’s Annual Meeting, click here.) Our investors certainly draw a similar inspiration. We would like to share a reflection from one of our Member investors, the Congregation of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Peace. One of their religious members – Sr. Ita Duffy, CSJP – marked her 70th anniversary with her congregation earlier this year and used that occasion to reflect on the significance of the Jubilee celebration in the book of Leviticus. Sr. Ita has long been a prophetic voice for peace and justice and commended both the Sisters of St. Joseph of Peace and the Leviticus Fund for their efforts to respond to the needs of the poor. Sr. Ita reminds us that each of us holds a unique piece in the work of stewardship and justice. Thank you Sr. Ita for your faith-filled ministry over 70 wondrous years and for your support of Leviticus’ mission. To read Sr. Ita’s reflection, click here. |
